C. , e GEO. W. NASON, Je., P. M. : The Celebeahon Yesterday. The celebra tion by the colored people yesterday, of the anniversary of. their emancipation, was well got n up, and attracted a great deal of attention. t. is worthy of remark that the proceedings ihroughont were of the most orderly and , proper character fetch as to elicit no taunting remarks Jrom the multitude of whites everywhere gath ered to witness the procession. After passing hrough the principal streets, led by a band of nusic, the procession entered the large open pace on Broadjstreet, between Middle and Han- X)ck streets, where a stand for speakers had been irected. Here they ' were addressed' by J. H. Iakeis, a colored orator, in a style that was iighly creditable to any one. His oration was xot only well delivered, but was remarkably tem perate, and appropriate. The usual k ill-natured illusions to'the whites found no place in the ipeaker's address, and his advice . to his hearers vas of that kind which,, if followed, will gain iem much honor and many friends unong the vhite citizens.of the South. ? After the'Vjxercises in the , public square, the liferent leagues, associations , and., schools narched to' the places at which they had formed utte toorning. " T : 'Painfdl Accjdent. An officer, whose name, is given as Smith S. Gilbeet, was badly wounded jresterdayt morning. Tt appears that he was one jf the gunners engaged in firing the salute during he celebration, ? and was at the muzzle of his riece, which had: been-.discharged five times. Either from neglecting to sponge the cannon out, br because the man at. the vent , removed his humb too soon,, whilst the. cartridge was being rammed home, .the piece was discharged,- and his bight hand was blown-.ofL .He was immediately carried to his, quarters, where surgical aid , was isummoned.
